Nutritious Baby Oatmeal for weaning

Oats are one among the least susceptible foods to any kind of allergies and these are also very rich source of fibers which makes oats a perfect first food for babies. New mums can make variety of healthy weaning recipes at home for their 6 months+ babies, keeping oats as basic ingredient. Because of rich fiber contents of oats, oatmeal does not cause constipation problem to babies as rice cereal does sometimes which makes oats much more suitable as base of start up weaning recipes.

In the following baby oatmeal recipe, oats are flavoured with banana, apple and sultana which makes this recipe very tasty and nutritious at the same time. This could be one of the easiest & best weaning recipes for 6 months and older babies.


  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 fresh, sweet apple of medium size
  • 1 medium sized ripe banana
  • 1 tbsp sultanas
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Peel, and dice the apple into small cubes. Peel the banana, mash it and reserve in a separate bowl. Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Pour the water and apple juice into the saucepan and bring to boil. When it starts boiling, add diced apples and sultana. After 2-3 minute, add Oats into the mixture and let it come to boil again. When boiling, simmer the heat and add pinch of nutmeg. Cook it for next 12-15 minutes until turns out thick.

Turn off the heat and allow the oatmeal to cool for 5-8 minutes. Pour the prepared oatmeal in a large bowl. Now, add milk and puree it with a hand blender. Add some mashed banana into it and mix it well. Fruity baby oatmeal is ready. You can serve this healthy weaning recipe as your baby’s first food.
