Eating apples for your health doesn’t mean you have to eat one fresh apple every day.

Why not try adding them into healthy recipes. This apple cake uses zero calorie Splenda instead of sugars. You can buy other brands of zero calorie sweeteners too. Also the unsweetened applesauce, whole wheat flour, and walnuts actually make this cake good for you. Plus it satisfies the sweet tooth.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup zero calorie sweetener
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 stick light butter (½ cup) softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • ¾ cup chopped walnuts

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Spray 9 X 13 inch baking pan with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine sweetener, salt, baking soda, flour, and cinnamon. Mix well.

Add the vanilla, butter, eggs, and applesauce. Mix well.

Stir in the nuts.

Pour batter into baking dish.

Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
