Five Spices Baby Corn

In this recipe we are using five spices to blend flavor into the baby corn. This dish can be served as a starter and is similar to the Manchurians we prepare, but with a difference.

  • 1 cup baby corn
  • ¼ cup maida
  • ¼ cup corn flour
  • ¼ tsp garam masala
  • A pinch of cardamom powder
  • ¼ tsp pepper powder
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp chilli flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 streaks of spring onion
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • Oil for deep-frying


Take maida, corn flour and salt in a bowl. Mix this flour to a pouring consistency with water. Mix baby corns cut into 1 inch pieces into this batter and mix.

Heat oil for deep-frying and with a spoon drop baby corns in hot oil and fry till golden brown. Take them onto a plate.

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan and add chopped garlic, chopped onion and slit green chillies and fry for sometime. Add ½ cup water, garam masala, salt, chilli powder, pepper powder, cardamom powder, chilli flakes and mix well. Stir in fried baby corns and simmer for few minutes till it becomes thick.

Garnish with chopped spring onions. Serve hot with tomato sauce.
