The chocolate cookie was invented by accident.

In 1930, the owner of the famous restaurant, Toll House Inn, Whitman, Massachusetts, ran out of baker’s chocolate, so she substituted broken pieces of chocolate, thinking it would melt into the cookie. It didn’t melt, instead it was the birth of a recipe that has become a household word. This recipe for chocolate chip cookies is delicious, you got to try it!

Cooking time: 20 minutes, or until edges are browned
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Serves: around 24 cookies

  • 1 stick butter (½ cup), softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 ¾ cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking four
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts

Method

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees, and cover baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cream together butter, sugars, until fluffy.

3. Add in the egg and vanilla, beat for 30 seconds.

4. In separate bowl combine all dry ingredients, mix well.

5. Combine both mixtures, beat well.

6. Drop by heaping tablespoons on to baking sheet.

7. Bake for 20 minutes, or until edges of cookies are golden brown.

8. Let cool before removing from baking sheet.
