Chile con carne, is also known as a Chile stew, a Spanish dish.
While most might think of tomatoes as a important ingredient in Chile, this recipe is made without it. It has a distinct flavor, that makes this Chile very rich and delicious. It is cooked in the crock pot, so you can come home to a great meal waiting for you. As sides, try corn chips, and grated cheese.
Cooking time: 4-8 hours
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4-5
Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped onions
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon bacon drippings
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- ½ tablespoon salt
- 3 tablespoons Chile powder
- 2- 1 pound cans kidney beans
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 2 tablespoon flour
- 2 ½ cups water
Method
1. Sauté onions and garlic in bacon drippings.
2. Add beef, cook, breaking up meat with a fork until meat is done.
3. Add salt, Chile powder, and stir.
4. Pour into crock pot.
5. Stir in, beans, cumin.
6. Take 2 tablespoons of the water and mix with the flour, add to pot.
7. Stir in the rest of the water.
8. Turn Crock pot on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
